when did you baby start talking?
Published by Jammy Sinclair on November 2, 2009My daughter is 15 months old and doesn’t really say any words. She said ‘mama’ a few months ago for a little while but she rarely says it now. she never called me mama directly and from i read she should recognize me and call me that and her daddy ‘dada’ which she doesn’t do either.
She does understand when i talk to her very well, when i ask her for she shoes, water, to give something to her daddy, and so on, anything i say she understands…but she doesn’t say anything.
The doctor says that if she doesn’t improve by her 18 month appointment we will have to see a Speech therapist.
When did your baby start talking?
How many words by 1 year?
How many words by 15 months?
My son is 15 months old and does about as much as your daughter. He says mum mum but he doesnt really say it at me. He doesnt say dada or anything. He makes sounds like aaay (for yay) and baa baa (for bye bye). He doesnt say any words clearly (where other people outside of the family could understand) except mum. I dont think you should be worried. I am not.
Also my son isnt walking yet. He is just starting to take steps, like going from the coffee table to the couch or from one side of the door way to the other. His doctor has said he is fine

It is too early to worry. Wait for a few more months. keep talking to her & introducing her to new words. Also allow her to mingle with baby’s of her age. If it still doesn’t work then the speech therapy should help.

Well, my son is almost 7 months and says mama and mum mum knowing what it means…
But I have a nephew who did not say anything until almost 3.
We thought he was never going to talk!
But now you could not quiet him down if you tried!
But his older sister talked full complete sentences before turning 2.
Where as their little sister did not talk again, until age 3. She was even worse than my nephew, she not only did not speak a word but did not smile or laugh. Always so quiet. My nephew at least laughed and tried to mimic.

Well, my 13 month old says maybe a few words, he says mum ,dad nan, bub ,cat and light…and that is really about it.
He started mum and nan at about 10 months and didn’t really say the others until after he turned 1.
I came on here, and asked how many words my one year old should be saying, and people tried to tell me their babies had a vocabulary of 20 + words fully knowing what they mean, even speaking sentences by 1, I found it a little hard to beleive, as did my nurse who found it quite amusing.
Realistically, by 1 year, they should have be familiar with 3-5 words. Thats it.

She is probably fine (my daughter isn’t old enough to talk yet) but this little sweetheart I used to babysit had a hearing problem that slowed his speech down, it required MINOR surgery and today he is a chatter box. My little brother also had to go to speech therapy in pre-K and after one week he was talking SO much better and is now in college and super smart and well adjusted- don’t worry.
