Is a mat a clean enough thing to exercise on?

Published by Jammy Sinclair on November 19, 2009

I’m a bit of a germaphobic.
I use this mat to exercise at home. However, people come and
go to our home with their shoes on. Sometimes I use this mat for yoga
or light breathing exercises and don’t have time to take shower afterwards.
Is a mat a good enough thing to exercise on and stay free from the germs on the floor?
I wash it immediately after using.

Make sure that you put one side down on the possibly dirty floor and the other side up.
You could put a beach towel on top of it before you roll it up to keep the clean side from being touched by the floor side. If you have a beach towel that looks different on one side from the other, that would be idea. if not, then make sure you always put the label in the same direction.

Putting the mat on a towel on the floor will not work as it defeats the purpose of the mat–to keep you from sliding around.

My 2 cents.
